Surgery and global health: a Lancet Commission.

The authors support the creation of "The Lancet" periodical's Commission on Global Surgery. They believe that a commission is needed to acknowledge surgical care delivery as a core component of health systems as well as embed surgical care within present global health initiatives and the post-2015 global health agenda. Information is given on the objectives of the commission, its first meeting and its members.
