Abstract

Presents a study on the risk of congenital anomalies, such as neural-tube defects and malformation of the cardiac septa, associated with residence near hazardous-waste landfill sites in Europe. Method of using data from seven regional registers in five countries; Findings on residence within three kilometers of a landfill site; Interpretation showing a raised risk of congenital anomaly in babies whose mothers live close to sites handling hazardous chemical wastes.
