Abstract

The article compared the cessation of co-trimoxazole prophylaxis with continued prophylaxis in HIV-infected children and adolescents treated with antiretroviral therapy (ART) in sub-Saharan Africa. The study found benefits in continuing co-trimoxazole prophylaxis after 96 weeks of ART, with fewer hospitalizations for both malaria and infection not related to malaria. No evidence of variation in the benefits of co-trimoxazole prophylaxis across ages or CD4 T-cell values was found.
