Abstract
- The article presents an examination into the history and development of the monastic order of Fontevraud, settled in Anjou, France by Robert of Arbrissel in 1101. Details are given reviewing how the ascetic community spontaneously formed around the teachings of Robert and over centuries developed into a Benedictine-style monastic order with a formal rule. Topics addressed include Fontevraud's religious morale, government style, and theology of the Christian in the world.
