Highlights: [•] Quantitative theoretical model for the growth of disclike micelles is developed. [•] Let p be the chemical potential difference between cylindrical and disclike micelle. [•] The theory predicts cylindrical micelles at p <0, but disclike micelles at p >0. [•] The rise of the peripheral energy of the disclike micelles limits their growth.
