Abstract

Transport properties under a large electromagnetic stress state of up to 190 MPa were investigated at 4.2 K for high-T/sub c/ Bi-based superconductors. A double pancake test coil employing Ag-sheathed multifilamentary Bi/sub 2/Sr/sub 2/CaCu/sub 2/O/sub 8/ (Bi2212) tapes was fabricated by a react and wind method reinforced with a Cu-50Ag tape. It is shown that the use of a parallel co-wound Cu-50Ag tape leads to improvement of mechanical properties. A quite stable behavior for the Ag-sheathed multifilamentary Bi2212 coil is observed with appearance of large normal zone voltages. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
