Abstract

The article presents a study which found deterioration in the quality of the bone cement interface with time and encourages orthopedic surgeons to use mantle with minimum thickness of three millimeters in total knee replacement surgery. It puts emphasis on the need of studying the quality of the trabecular bone around both cemented and uncemented implants in order to understand the role of stress shielding, load transfer, and implant fixation techniques.
