Optimizing the efficiency of all transport vehicles requires comprehensive and systematic solutions, particularly when the objective is to reduce energy demands. Driving resistance and reducing mass play key roles in this effort. This paper describes the influence of vehicle mass on railway transport energy for various classes (different kinds) of railway vehicles (suburban, regional, and high-speed rail).
