Abstract

Highlights: [•] Sleep architecture changes are found in most patients with schizophrenia. [•] These changes are considered an important part of the pathophysiology of the disorder. [•] Sleep changes negatively affect neocortical plasticity and cognition. [•] Sleep abnormalities and circadian misalignment are present on the early stages of schizophrenia. [•] These abnormalities can be explored as possible predictors of developing a psychotic disorder in at-risk populations. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
