Abstract

Highlights: [•] We assessed the changing seroprevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) markers in adults in Singapore. [•] Hepatitis B vaccination in the national childhood immunisation programme was extended to all newborns on 1 September 1987. [•] The national childhood HBV immunisation and catch-up programmes in 2001–2004 raised the immunity of those aged 18–29 years. [•] The prevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) was 3.6% in 2010, within the range of intermediate HBV endemicity. [•] HBsAg prevalence among permanent residents who were foreign-born was 1.4 times that of Singapore citizens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
