Abstract
- The article discusses the mural "The Destruction of War/ Rebuilding the World Through Education" by Fred Ross, which was painted during the late 1940s at Fredericton High School (FHS) in Fredericton, New Brunswick, taken down in the 1950s, and recreated in the 20th century at the University of New Brunswick. According to the author, the original mural's removal and subsequent loss was not a product of censorship but nonetheless demonstrated that the artwork and its message were not considered sufficiently valuable to be preserved. Details on the effects of the Cold War on New Brunswick art and society are presented. The depiction of a corpse and a nuclear explosion in the mural are discussed.
