Abstract
- Explores the strains and tensions which were created by the application of the Crown's policy toward the nobles and the rule of the provinces under the early Tudors and to the `peripheral' parts of the Tudor state. Outline of the political ambitions, resources and estate-management policies of a border baron; Suggestion that the traditional approach of historians to the problems of Tudor politics and government reflect too much a view of events as seen from `the center.'
