Abstract

The article reflects on the diminishing class of intellectuals in Russia in March 1992. The intellectuals are losing their influence in Moscow and it is a melancholy passage. They were considered as the last leisured class. Moreover, they possess the free time for self-cultivation usually attributed to aristocrats. During the glasnost period, the intellectuals formed many organizations that were really discussion clubs or excuses to found a newspaper. The intellectuals also formed a democratic movement that, eventually, became the driving force of anti-Communism in Russia. The movement played a significant role in changing Russia's political and social landscape.
