Abstract
- Lists 54 young adult books chosen by SLJ's Book Review editors for 1991. They were chosen as best of the year in terms of originality, literary and artistic merit, clarity, and potential appeal to young readers. Central to the plots of many of 1991's novels are children abandoned by their adult caregivers and youngsters forced to take on adult responsibilities. Authors including Lloyd Alexander, Betsy Byars, Russell Freedman, Bill Martin, Mary Pope Osborne, and Laura Rankin.
