Abstract

The article discusses the cultural transmission of popular culture through the East Asian region and the intersection of politics, economy, and culture, according to the research of Koichi Iwabuchi, a professor of media and cultural studies at Monash University. Topics include Iwabuchi's research into Korean popular (K-pop) culture idols and dramas, known as the "Korean Wave," discrimination against Koreans in Japan, and ethnological aspects of mass media culture.
