Abstract

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (RHS) (Herpes zoster oticus) is a cranial polyneuropathy which is caused by the reactivation of varisella zoster virus. Respectively 7, 8, 9, 5, 10, and 6 cranial nerves and the servical nerves are involved. In this syndrome, 7 cranial nerve involvement constitutes 3-12% of all facial paralysis patients. Diagnosis depends on determining the ear pain, vesiculer rush around the earlap, and facial paralysis caused sequelae. Due to skin lesions on the head and neck region and neurological symptoms, RHS was suspected. Early treatment may effect prognosis. A 65-year-old individual, with right facial paralysis andpainfull ipsilateral herpetic vesicules on one side of the head and neck has been diagnosed RHS. The case has been discussed for the purpose of determining prognosis because servical dermatome involvement is rare in RHS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
