Abstract

Salivary gland masses are frequently encountered in the outpatient clinic. A careful history and a detailed physical examination direct us to the diagnosis and the possible differential diagnoses. Submandibular gland masses are divided into two large groups as non-neoplastic and neoplastic masses. Imaging modalities (ultrasonography, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging) are important investigations to approach the possible diagnoses. Our patient was a 80-year-old male who admitted to outpatient clinic with the complaint of swelling under the right side of his chin, lasting for one year. Imaging and fine needle aspiration biopsy of the patient suggested a neoplastic submandibular gland mass. The submandibular gland and the mass were removed. Histopathologic diagnosis was adenoid cystic carcinoma. The patient is presented with the relevant literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
