- Highlights: [•] The linear instability of a solar pond with porous material in the LCZ is explored. [•] In general, the presence of porous material causes the solar pond to be more stable. [•] The percentage of porous material does not stabilise the system in a linear fashion. [•] Solar pond instability is affected by the proportion of heat flux extracted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
