Abstract
- The article discusses the roles of bodily labor, need, and suffering in the writings of 17th-century radical and activist Gerrard Winstanley. According to the author, the human body was the primary framework through which Winstanley approached his critique of poverty and injustice. It is suggested that Winstanley's political treatment of the body demonstrated a complex understanding of historical and capitalistic forces. Community and social change are also discussed.
