Abstract

The technical procedures of translation were first identified in the work of Vinay and Darbelnet ([1958] 1977). Among these procedures, the adaptation was described, locally, as cultural or situational adequacy of the source text in the target culture and language. Currently, more than a local procedure, researchers as Bastin ([1998] 2011) have been considering adaptation as a global one that involves several other secondary procedures in the translation process. Therefore, the main objectives of this study were to categorize the secondary procedures of the adaptation process and apply this categorization to the analysis of a translation/adaptation of the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, written by Bruno S. R. and illustrated by Sam Hart, comparing it with other traditional translations of the play whenever necessary [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
