Abstract: This article presents a review of data in literature that deal with the characterization of coronary atherosclerosis by magnetic resonance imaging. It discusses the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis and transition of subclinical to clinical disease. The technical challenges of cardiovascular magnetic resonance of coronary atherosclerosis are described.
