Abstract
- The article presents a profile of the political conditions of Turkey as of 2013. Focus is given to the large-scale consolidation of power by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) under the leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and its various social effects. Details are given noting violent crackdowns on protest demonstrations, systemic persecution against minority ethnic groups, and the political monopoly which the AKP demonstrates throughout the nation's governance.
