Abstract

Highlights: [•] This paper presents a micromechanics-based approach to the interface modeling in metal forming. [•] It catches the nature of friction and heat transfer and implements together both models. [•] We give insight into how a process designer could evaluate a candidate tooling design. [•] Chilling due to better heat transfer leads to increased resistance to deformation. [•] The model gives qualitatively and quantitatively promising results for many combinations.
