Abstract
- The article discusses a report in the August 14, 2013 issue of the journal 'Proceedings of the Royal Society B" regarding a study by Thomas Dahlgren and colleagues of Uni Research, the University of Bergen’s partner research company in Norway, that found a species of shipworm, called Osedax antarcticus, that feeds on the bones of dead whales. Factors influencing the suitability of Antarctica's offshore habitat for wood borers, such as its ocean currents, are discussed.
