The article presents a literary critique of the themes of politics and economics seen within the Loss of Certainty Trilogy by T. P. Jones, "Jackson," "The Gamble," and "River Rising." Subjects addressed include the initial literary goal of the author to depict a river city's local political dynamics, the significance of Midwestern weather as a major element in the stories, and the social characteristics of the fictional town of Dubuque.
