Abstract

The article discusses the Pakistani state's efforts in to counter Islamic militants in Pakistan from throughout the country's post-colonial period through 2012, with a particular focus on its efforts against the Islamic fundamentalist organization the Taliban. An overview of the Pakistani government's relationship with the country's military, including in regard to managing social unrest and fighting Islamic jihadists on Pakistan's frontier, is provided.
