Abstract

The article offers information on the benefits of polyethylene glycol (PEG-400) as it acts like an efficient reaction mediator for the synthesis of aroylbenzofurans. It discusses the methods of synthesis of benzofuran derivatives which include intramolecular palladium catalyzed arylation of enols, annulation of a furan ring onto a benzene ring and cyclization-coupling. It examines PEG-400 as a solvent medium for the Rap-Stoermer reaction between salicylaldehydes and haloketones.
