Abstract

The article discusses a report in the August 2, 2013 issue of "Science" by researcher Carlos Bustamante and team on analysis of the Y chromosomes of men from different regions, finding that the most recent common ancestor could be traced to 120,000-156,000 years ago to the time of the female common mitochondrial DNA ancestor. Another report in "Science" by researcher Paolo Francalacci and team dated the common Y chromosome ancestor of men from Sardinia, Italy to 180,000 to 200,000 years ago.
