Abstract

The article discusses the results of a study that examined a human case of Streptococcus suis infection with meningitis and bacteremia in an immunocompetent patient living in French Guinea. It explained that Streptococcus suis is a major swine pathogen that causes an emerging zoonosis in humans and responsible for severe systemic infections such as meningitis and sepsis. It concluded with a suggestion for persons with occupational exposure to swine or pork products to be educated of the risk.
