Abstract

The article focuses on a portrait of Jehu, King of Israel, which was discovered at the excavation site Kuntillet 'Ajrud in Egypt. The article discusses the Black Obelisk discovered by archaeologist Henry Layard in 1846 located in the British Museum which was mistakenly believed to depict Jehu bowing before Shalmaneser, King of Assyria. The article goes on to discuss the portrait of Jehu at Kuntillet 'Ajrud, part of a royal Israelite mural from the Late Bronze Age.
