Design at the Crossroads.

The article discusses new intersection and interchange designs based on the "Alternative Intersections/Interchanges: Information Report" from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in 2010. The new designs include diverging diamond interchanges (DDI) also called double crossover diamond, displaced left-turn (DLT) intersections and restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT) intersections. Each design's implications for traffic safety as well as their cost and operational benefits are tackled.
