Abstract

The article discusses the importance of popular education in creating public spaces for debate and dissent to address the growing crisis in democracy across Europe. It tackles the interrelated dimensions of the crisis of democracy across Europe and describes the Scandinavian approach to popular education. It also describes how the study circles and folk high schools in Sweden contribute towards the development of an informed public sphere in the Swedish civil society.
