Highlights: [•] Increased plasma PEDF was accompanied with reduced adipose ATGL protein and enhanced lipolysis. [•] PEDF downregulated adipose ATGL protein and upregulated lipolysis. [•] Endogenous ATGL was decreased by PEDF treatment. [•] PEDF promoted ATGL degradation via ubiquitin-dependent proteasomal degradation pathway. [•] PEDF stimulated lipolysis via ATGL activation.
