Abstract
- An essay is presented which discusses the political aspects of the hair style and clothing of African American women who belonged to the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) during the 1960s and early 1970s. An overview of African American student political activists' attire, including their abandoning of what was putatively deemed respectable clothing for overalls and denim skirts, is provided.
