Abstract

Highlights: [•] Moorland vegetation on peat is subject to both prescribed burning and wildfire. [•] Propagule banks were measured at two moorlands to assess regeneration potential. [•] Deep litter accumulated seeds and prevented transfer to underlying peat. [•] Long-rotation burns favoured Calluna vulgaris and Sphagnum propagule frequency. [•] We advise burning at two rotations; short for conserving diversity in vegetation and long for conserving propagule banks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
