Abstract

Highlights: [•] Mechanistic aspects of Streptococcus mitis photoinactivation were investigated. [•] Singlet molecular oxygen is mainly involved in the S. mitis cells photoinactivation. [•] Modifications of genomic DNA from S. mitis were not found after photoinactivation. [•] Photoinactivated S. mitis cells showed alteration in the cell barriers. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
