Abstract

The article analyzes several poems by Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, including "Cuimhne an Uisce" (A Recovered Memory of Water), "An Mhurúch Seo 'gainne fó Thoinn Arís" (Our Mermaid Goes Under Again), and "Táiimid Damanta, A Dheirféaracha" (We Are Damned, My Sisters). It explores her use of the Irish keen. According to the author, Ní Dhomhnaill's use of the supernatural presents a female image to counter women's neglected historical social position in Ireland.
