CLEARING THE AIR.

The article reports that a team of researchers from Great Britain are developing a way to help baffles arranged at the end of a runway can send the exhaust of departing aircraft upward for improved dispersion. The team started with wind tunnel tests at Cranfield University. The baffles were set at angles between 40 and 60 degrees to maximize their impact on the exhaust. The prototype array demonstrated that the aircraft exhaust plume could be redirected upward so less of it reached the airport's boundary fence.
