Abstract
- The article discusses the connection between theories dealing with race and sexual orientation, with focus given to the concept of desire as it relates to non-heteronormative Africans and members of the African diaspora. The author argues that in order to understand the connection between race and sexuality, one must focus on everyday life. To this extent, the author describes his own discussions with black men and women that deal with desire for recognition as citizens and inclusion in the nation. He also deals with the concept of homonationalism, in which homosexuality and American nationalism are combined in order to cover the United States' poor treatment of other groups.
