Abstract
- Turkish speaking Orthodox Christian people who lived in Anatolia called Karamanian or Karamanlides and their language Karamanlidika or Karamanli Turkish. The first written works of Karamanian people who had lived in Anatolia since XIIIth century were first found in XVth century. Since that time, hundreds of Karamanian texts, mostly religious remained till present day. Even though they lived together with Muslim Turks in peace and they supported the National Struggle in the Turkish War of Independence, they were excepted as a part of Greek society because of their religion. Due to the Treaty of Lausanne, Karamanian people were subject to the Greek-Turkish population exchange together with the other Greek people in Anatolia. Karamanian people tried to publish literary works in their new homeland but they could not succeed. Thus, Karamanian literature came to the end at the beginning of the XXth century. In this work, 6 Karamanian works with religious content written in Greek script in different periods are examined: Angeliaforoz, Gennadios Itikatnamesi, Gülizar-ı İman-ı Mesihi, Ispat-ı Mesihiye, Yeñi Hazne and Psaltirion. First of all, Islamic terminology of these works are listed alphabetically and then they were examined according to their phonetical and morphological properities. Under each entry, the related sentences from the original works are provided. In the conclusion section, the reasons behind the use of Islamic terms in Karamanian works are discussed.
