Abstract
- The article presents information on the various engineering projects required to right and refloat the Costa Concordia cruise ship, which settled on its side after running aground in 2012 on the island of Giglio in Italy. Topics include the risk of ocean pollution if the ship sinks during the salvage operation, comments by salvage coordinator Nick Sloane in August 2013, and the use of an engineering procedure known as parbuckling.
