- The article discusses the 20th century African American civil rights movement in light of several books including "Bending Toward Justice" by Gary May; "The March on Washington" by William Jones; and "Cold War Civil Rights," by Mary Dudziak. Topics include African American voter suppression, the U.S. Supreme Court cases "Screws v. United States" and "Shelby County v. Holder," the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the 1963 March on Washington, D.C., and civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.
