Abstract
- The article looks at the U.S. legal industry as of 2013, discussing the decline of the profession in terms of salary and security for law firm partners since its peak in the second half of the 20th century. Topics include the rising unemployment rate among law school graduates; the expected decline of Big Law, or the approximately 200 law firms in the U.S. that cater to large corporations; and the Chicago, Illinois law firm Mayer Brown, which pioneered the Chicago model of raising nearly all law associates to partner level after seven years at the firm.
