Abstract

With unemployment in New Jersey's Hunterdon County running at 1.9 percent, businesses are having extreme difficulties finding new employees. Employers are arranging transportation to bring in workers from distant regions and are offering $50 bounties to workers who bring in new recruits. Wages have risen dramatically for even basic jobs as employers struggle to fill unglamorous positions. With such high employment, the economy's growth has actually been slowed.
