Abstract

The article focuses on a study which investigated the frequency and associated clinical outcomes of prevalent and intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired positive bacterial cultures associated with 2009 influenza A(H1N1) infection. It describes the methodology conducted to adult patients with influenza A(H1N1) infection who were admitted in Canadian ICUs. It cites the most common bacterial organisms isolated in the study, including coagulase-negative staphylococci and Pseudomonas species.
