Abstract

The G-CSF reverses neutropenia in small animals and the dose is mainly used 5µg/kg/dia, however there are reports that its use reduces the platelets. The aim of this study was to evaluate three different doses of rhG-CSF on white blood cell count and platelets in healthy dogs. Three groups of five dogs each, received doses of 5, 10 and 20µg /Kg /day for four days. The blood collected was evaluated for 10 days consecutive with the help of automatic cell counter. The increase in neutrophilic leukocytes occurred 24 hours after the first application with a drop to baseline levels 48 hours after the last application. The number of platelets decreased after the first application and did not return to baseline until the last day of analysis. The G-CSF at a dose of 5µg/kg/d raises the value of neutrophils, although the value of platelet reduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
