Abstract
- The article explores the affinity of poets Lionel Johnson and Louis Imogen Guiney's who were associated with Decadence and aestheticism, with the figure of recusant. It demonstrates the need for more attention to theology and Church history in an understanding of late-Victorian Catholicism by sketching out their attachments to the figure of the recusant. It refers to Guiney as a representative of the fin de siècle but very much of the religio-spiritual and nostalgic tendencies of her time.
