Balloon Dilatation of the Pulmonary Valve in a 690-gm Neonate With Tetralogy of Fallot.

Although recent technological advances have dramatically improved the survival of preterm infants born at the "limit of viability," coexisting congenital heart disease may limit resuscitation efforts. This case report is the first to describe successful transcatheter relief of right ventricular outflow tract obstruction of an extremely low birth weight infant with tetralogy of Fallot as rescue therapy after closure of the arterial duct. This interventional approach offers bridging to palliative or corrective surgery and could be used in fetal intervention when indicated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
