Abstract

The article analyzes Marghanita Laski's novel "To Bed With Grand Music," which explores issues of gender expectations and uses popular understandings of food consumption as a vehicle to approach topics of female sexuality and sexual agency. In this novel, Laski allegedly addresses the issues of wartime sexuality and of infidelity in a more nuanced and neutral manner. The novel's success reportedly lies in the consistent refusal by Deborah to adhere to the wartime expectations for women.
