Abstract

The author argues that some U.S. citizens are too complacent regarding their inalienable rights and privacy, and mentions the 2013 release of classified documents related to the U.S. telecommunications data gathering program by former U.S. National Security Agency employee Edward J. Snowden. National security, government secrecy, and the legal procedure for the government to read private e-mails or listen to telephone conversations are discussed.
